Background of the Study
Education is without a doubt the most priceless present that any set of parents can provide to their offspring, regardless of the region in which they make their home. This is not an exaggeration in any way, shape, or form: a parent who wants to maximize their children's potential but does not invest in their education is analogous to a virgin who wants to give birth but does not want to be fertilized in order to make the same comparison. Everything is an illusion, and life is just a pointless trip through it. This is because education is vital to the growth of a kid, as well as to the growth of a nation or community. Acquiring a certain level of education is educational in order to grow in one's knowledge and abilities. One strategy that may be utilized in order to accomplish this objective is passing on one's knowledge and abilities to subsequent generations. The upbringing of a kid has repercussions not just for the child themselves but also for the entirety of the community in which the child lives. A kid will spend the majority of his or her time at home when they are growing up, and the environment in which they are raised will have an effect on the cognitive development of that child. It is important for families to be actively involved in the formation of their children's personalities and ways of thinking in order to guarantee that their children will mature in a healthy manner. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, a student's academic ability is significantly influenced by family and parental support in a variety of ways, including financially, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. The family, and particularly the parents, have a significant impact on the academic success of secondary school students. However, because of the nature of their jobs, many parents are required to move from one location to another. This has had a significant negative impact on the academic performance of the learners, as some of them may need to repeat classes, as they must become accustomed to the new school environment, as they must learn to make new friends, and as they must ease into a new teaching and learning process (Duyile, 2022). As a result, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact that the learner's parents have on their overall academic performance.
Statement of the Problem
Parental influence can have an effect on children's academic performance as well as their attitudes toward educational activities. This influence can take the form of paying attention to the educational requirements of children, expressing interest in those children, and providing encouragement and support to those children. Despite the fact that it is of utmost significance, many parents are unaware of the several educational techniques that are currently accessible as well as the ways in which they may get more involved in the education of their children. However, because of the nature of their parents' jobs and the fact that their parents frequently move from one place to another, students may experience a setback as a result of all of these factors, which in turn has an effect on the academic performance of learners. As a result, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact that the transfer of learners' parents has on the learners' academic performance.
Objective of the Study
The general objective of the study is to examine the effect of parents transfer on academic performance of the learner's. the specific objectives is as follows:
Research Questions
The following questions have been prepared for the study:
Research Hypothesis
H0: The extent to which parent job type influence the academic performances of learners is low.
H01: The extent to which parent job type influence the academic performances of learners is low.
Significance of the Study
The study will be significant to the parents, teachers, students and school management as they will be exposed to the damages transferring regularly from one place to the other does to a learners psychological well being and thereby strategize ways of helping the students.
The study will be significant to the academic community as it will contribute to the existing literature.
Scope of the Study
The study will investigate the factors responsible for parents getting a transfer. The study will also analyze the effect of parents transfer on the academic performance of learners. The study will further examine the extent to which parent job type influence the academic performances of learners. Lastly, the study will find out the challenges learners face after moving to a new school due to their parent been transferred. Hence this study will be delimited to Lagos state.
Limitation of the Study
Like in every human endeavour, the researchers encountered slight constraints while carrying out the study. Insufficient funds tend to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature, or information and in the process of data collection (internet, questionnaire, and interview), which is why the researcher resorted to a moderate choice of sample size. More so, the researcher will simultaneously engage in this study with other academic work. As a result, the amount of time spent on research will be reduced.
